Welcome

Reading Climbing Centre will be an exciting addition to the climbing scene in southern England when it opens it's doors this Autumn. The centre is being developed by John Dunne, the man behind Manchester and Harrogate Climbing Centres.

John is building on a lifelong climbing career, with first ascents of many modern grit classics including New Statesman at Ilkley and Widdop Wall at Widdop. . MCC chief route setter Andy Jack and British Bouldering Team member and regular route setter Dave Barrans will be leading a team to provide top-quality routes for the 90 roped lines and huge bouldering area that the centre will host.

There will be a café on site so you can watch the action with a coffee and a cake once you’ve done your hard work! There will also be a retail shop to service all your equipment and clothing needs.

This is going to be a centre for every level, from complete beginners to the experienced climber. There will be fully trained instructors available for those who’ve not climbed before, as well as routes of all grades for the regular climber.

On the development of the centre, owner John Dunne said “Reading is one of the few major towns in the UK without a big climbing wall. I’m really excited to be going into a new area and bringing a great new centre to the south of England. This is set to be one of the biggest centres in the country, and we hope to continue the great route-setting, instructing and atmosphere that we have in our existing centres

At Urbanrock we are proud to call ourselves The Climbing Experts. Our aim is simply to be your first choice for climbing equipment.

What sets us apart from other outdoor shops is that we are an independent dedicated climbing store.

We are confident that our selection of climbing equipment cannot be bettered and our product expertise is some of the best in the business.

Our products are carefully chosen to ensure that they will do the job they are supposed to do. Whether you are looking for clothing, footwear, a rucksack or a full set of winter climbing hardware you can be sure that the products we stock will do the job you require.

We are also well aware that you would rather be climbing than shopping, and with our stores based in the UK’s premier climbing centres this should no longer be a problem.

As we head towards the opening of the centre, we are starting to look for enthusiatic, flexible and hardworking climbers to come on board on a part time basis! We are looking for people with a passion for climbing who want to pass this on to others through instructing our wide range of courses. You would also be involved in working on reception, and in the general maintenance of the centre. An SPA or CWA is an advantage, as is  First Aid qualification, but neither are essential. We will be holding interviews in late August/early September and are starting to collect applications now. If you would like to be considered, please send your CV to recruitment@readingclimbingcentre.com with a cover letter stating your availability and roughly how many hours per week you are looking for.
