Home | Return to Climbing during COVID-19

From Saturday 19th December, we will be moving to Tier 3- High Alert. We will remain OPEN and are running mostly the same as before.

Please continue to only socialise with your household (or bubble) within the centre and stick to the same COVID preventions as before-- hands, face, space…

Due to the government COVID travel advice you should not travel to the centre if you do not live in a tier 3 area. This will become more problematic as we move in to tier 3 as many of you will live in a tier 2 area.

We will still be running our u18 courses and sessions, inc. NICAS and Academy for everyone, as Sport England have confirmed the travel restrictions will not “apply to travel where it’s necessary to enable disability sport, sport for educational purposes, elite sport or supervised sport and physical activity for under-18s to take place.”

In light of the rise of cases across the UK, and in the hope to do our bit to help suppress the spread of COVID-19,  it is compulsory to wear a face mask / covering in all areas of the centre, unless…

  • on the wall climbing
  • using training / gym equipment
  • seated in our cafe area with food or drink
  • medically exempt or aged under 11

This means whether you’re stood on the bouldering mat, or in the general climbing area, you will be required to wear your mask until the point you start to physically climb or exercise. Once you have completed your climb, you must put your face mask back on. This policy is also relevant to those booked onto an instructed session or course and those belaying or supervising.

Further to us deciding to make this move, the ABC have updated their industry standard guidelines to reflect this new Face Mask Policy.

Those exempt (aged under 11 or those with medical reasons) will not be required to wear face masks in the centre, however we do ask you to maintain social distancing throughout your stay, and respect other users in the centre.

Whilst it is not mandatory to wear a face mask on the wall, it is strongly recommended as it means you are not putting them on and off repeatedly, which best practice guidance suggests should be kept to a minimum and done with clean, sanitised hands to reduce the risk of contamination.

Please take a moment to update yourself on our below MASK UP! information video and advice:
